3D Quilling: Bettie Birdie

Bettie the Birdie is a sweet little canary who has become way too big for her nest.

There was a little bit of experimentation when making Bettie, which lead to a few new techniques learned. Pushing out her 'teardrop' wings a little on one side gives her wings an even more 3D look. The tiny bit of husking that was done to create her tail was a first for me, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

I also had a go at fringing for the first time. I have seen so many beautiful flowers created using this technique, so I was a little unsure if it would create the look I was going for to create her nest. After a lot of snipping, I'd say it worked out just fine.

Bettie sits at 3cm (1.2in) tall. She is made using 6mm strips, and her tail, beak and eyes are made with 3mm strips. The nest was fringed also using 6mm strips.
